Overview

We recognise that finding time to keep up with the latest advances and emerging evidence can be difficult. With the introduction of revalidation approaching, GPs are under more pressure than ever before to demonstrate that they are keeping up to date and addressing their learning needs. Our essential two day General Update, now in its fourth year, makes it easy for you to stay on top of the latest developments in the management of conditions you encounter every day.

Programme 1 and Programme 2 each cover six important topics, and you can attend one or both days depending on your learning needs. All sessions are led by speakers who are not only experts in their fields but excellent teachers. They will guide you through the latest evidence, new guidelines, and best practice in a motivating format, with time to get your questions answered. You will also have the chance to interact with speakers and colleagues with our handheld electronic keypads. Introduced in 2009, these allow you to participate in quizzes and polls, and have proven to be a popular and education-enhancing tool.

Our dedicated team of clinical editors, many of whom are GPs themselves, have been working hard to tailor the 2010 programmes to your needs. In response to feedback from our delegates, this year we have added new topical sessions to each programme, while all sessions will be presented in a more symptom and case based way.

The 2010 programmes have also been designed with revalidation in mind. Our speakers will highlight practical action points and take home messages so that you can improve your practice. All delegates will receive a 'track your learning' document, helping you to rate the impact of each session and maximise your learning credits. Our comprehensive course handbook featuring new guidelines, practical management tips, key references and commonly asked questions will also help you to reflect on your learning.

What they said

“Relaxed environment, clinically relevant and very informative.” GP, Cardiff

“Very good take home material, with succinct points made during the presentation.” GP, Newcastle

“High quality speakers, able to load (but not overload) you with useful facts in such a short space of time.” GP, Glasgow

“Excellent varied lectures - should be compulsory for all GPs!” GP, Birmingham

“Lots of topics covered, entertaining speakers and good mix of facts, evidence and common sense.” GP, Birmingham

“The handbook is a useful take-home reminder of course, plus provides additional information for further learning.” GP, Glasgow

"Excellent meeting - looking forward to similar later in the year - this is the second masterclass I've been to - long may they continue!" GP, Sheffield

"The masterclass was superb over the 2 days. One highlight was the demonstration of orthopaedic examinations. I think we are all worried that we might get rusty and as a GP there is no one to correct you or refine your technique." Dr S. T., Manchester

"The evaluation form doesn't really do justice. I think the course on 29/4 and 30/4 was probably the best I have ever attended. Excellent speakers, superb venue and brilliant organisation. Keep up the good work." Dr. D. F., London
