What will this session cover?

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is very common. It can cause significant misery in patients’ lives. Diagnosis of IBS, especially differentiating it from inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), can be tricky in general practice.

In this session, Dr Sheth will discuss how to assess, diagnose, and treat IBS, including what dietary and lifestyle advice to give.

By the end of the session, you will understand:

  • How to make a confident diagnosis of IBS
  • How to differentiate IBS from IBD
  • What advice to give
  • What options to try if first line strategies don’t help

Dr Tanay Sheth

GPSI Gastroenterology, Primary Care Gastroenterology Society

Tanay Sheth is a GPSI in Gastroenterology based in Surrey, and a committee member of the Primary Care Society for Gastroenterology. He was educated at Cambridge and St Bartholomew’s, and trained in Medicine & Gastroenterology and General Practice. He has a long interest in endoscopy, practising in primary and secondary care since 1999, and setting up a primary care service in London in 2008.
