BMJ Masterclasses receives support from a number of organisations, including pharmaceutical companies, who work with us under the principles of transparency, integrity, and editorial independence. Read our full sponsorship guidelines.

When and why were BMJ Masterclasses launched?

BMJ Masterclasses were launched in February 2006 with Cardiology and Respiratory Medicine courses for hospital doctors. The first BMJ Masterclass for general practitioners launched in September 2006. Since then, BMJ Masterclasses have grown to cover a range of topics, with events taking place in many locations across the United Kingdom. BMJ Masterclasses is now one of the leading providers of educational events for doctors in the UK, with 1 in 5 GPs having attended a BMJ Masterclass. To find out why BMJ Masterclasses launched, please read the 'Launching BMJ Masterclasses' editorial which appeared in BMJ on 17 December 2005.

How often should I attend BMJ Masterclasses?

BMJ Masterclasses for GPs are updated with the latest evidence and new guidelines at least annually, so you can attend as often as you like. Many of our delegates will attend the two day General Update programme every year for an annual update - a convenient option for busy GPs. Others will choose which masterclass to attend based on the learning needs set out in their personal development plan. In this case, our specialty programmes are ideal for a more comprehensive update in a particular clinical area.
